Lydia’s House Ministries operates on gifts and special fundraising events from our local churches and communities. Government money has not been a part of this good work so there is need for the churches to continue to support this compassion ministry. Thus the “Lydia’s House Compassion” campaign is being initiated throughout the churches in Richland County.

Each year the ministries of Lydia’s House feeds, houses, counsels, and provides other basic needs for about 40-50 families and individuals directly and works with another 150 people to get them what they need, which translates to approx. 3,000 “people nights” (one person staying one night).

Today the Lydia’s House Ministries Board is initiating the “Lydia’s House Compassion” campaign by asking each church to commit to partnering with Lydia’s House Ministries by using the Lydia’s House little blue plastic banks as a means for people to contribute to this important ministry work. The ask is that our church commit to raising an amount commensurate with our size and giving, and to ask that families promote the filling of the banks with money at home and returned it to your church.

Trinity UMC has chosen a goal of $1,000 to raise for the “Lydia’s House Compassion” campaign. Also, Trinity has chosen the season of Advent for each of our families to receive one of the plastic blue “Lydia’s House piggy-banks” to bring home to fill, beginning on the First Sunday of Advent, December 2nd worship service through the next 6 weeks, to January 6th. The banks will be available in the narthex on Sunday 12/2 for members and will be given to the children of families  during  the worship service “Children’s Message”.

Then we ask all families that have taken one bank, to fill the bank multiple times, with a larger container at church for the smaller banks to emptied into each week. You are encouraged to fill the house banks multiple times and a running total to the amount collected will be posted each week, so everyone knows where it stands in regard to our $1000 goal.  Again our heartfelt thanks to all that participate, as it is not only meeting the goal, we are also giving to a greater need in our community, and it BEGINS WITH YOU!
