Dear Friends,

I am writing to let you know about the new confirmation classes planned for our 7th graders at Trinity and Peace UMC. We are preparing for this confirmation class knowing the difficult situation we are facing since Covid-19 has occurred. We have been postponing this, but I think it’s now time to start the class so we can move on with our lives, just as we schedule the other things we do. I am very excited that this class is getting close to starting and I hope you aren’t afraid or anxious about getting together to take these classes. Before the pandemic, our confirmation class was extended to two consecutive years, but I have decided to streamline it to avoid that long process, since we do not know where this pandemic may take us.

We will be using the Bible as our textbook and then Dr. Justo L. Gonzalez’s “History of the Christian Church”. Dr. Gonzalez is a historian and theologian who lives in Atlanta, Georgia. He has written more than 60 books. I will also be using other resources for the history of the United Methodist Church and will also use The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church. You can come to class prepared with a notebook and pen or pencil to take notes.

First, we will be covering the Hebrew Bible and the history of major events in the Old Testament. Second, we will venture into the New Testament. Third, we will learn a brief part of the history of the Christian church. Finally, we will take a look at a brief history of the United Methodist Church.

In each class, I will have about a 45-minute presentation. This will be followed by a time where you can ask me any questions about the subject we are dealing with that evening or any other questions that you may have on your mind. Taking notes and class participation will be strongly recommended.

Please keep Gavin, a 15-year-old boy who is part of this year’s confirmation class, in your prayers. Gavin recently had a skiing accident and had to have surgery in the Marshfield Hospital. We are praying that the Good Lord will quickly heal him of his injuries and that he can be with us when we gather together on January 10, 2022.

In Christ,

Rev. Rey Díaz, Pastor
